In a historic move aimed at transforming rural communities and driving innovation, the Nigeria Entrepreneurship Youth Initiative (NEYI) laid the foundation for its first Techpreneurship Hub on December 20, 2024. The hub, located in Araromi Olorunsogo, right opposite Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Oba Road, Abeokuta, Ogun State, marks a groundbreaking step in bridging the digital divide and empowering underserved populations.

This rural area, while gradually developing, has long lacked access to comprehensive tech education and entrepreneurial resources. With this hub, NEYI is set to redefine opportunities for youths, students, women, and SMEs, bringing innovation, digital literacy, and vocational skills training to the heart of the community.

A Hub for Digital Skills and Vocational Innovation

The NEYI Techpreneurship Hub is designed to be a center of excellence where participants will acquire cutting-edge skills and practical knowledge. The hub will offer training in digital skills such as:

  • Web and app Development

  • Digital Marketing

  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

  • Cybersecurity

  • Product Design

  • Project Management

In addition to these, the hub will provide a range of entrepreneurship-focused vocational skills. These include:

  • Fashion Design

  • Hairdressing

  • Baking and Confectionery

  • Graphic Design

  • Photography and Videography

By integrating technology with these vocational skills, the hub will empower young entrepreneurs to innovate within their fields, enhance their productivity, and make their businesses more competitive in the digital economy.

Driving Economic Growth and Community Development

Mr. Adefisoye Adeshola, popularly known as Mr. Diligent, President of NEYI, emphasized the transformative potential of the hub: “This Techpreneurship Hub will not only teach digital skills but will also help young entrepreneurs see deeply how they can leverage technology to scale their businesses. Every business today needs technology to thrive, and our hub will address this need by providing affordable and accessible education.

Through the NEYI Techpreneurship Academy, we are committed to making technology a tool for growth and innovation across all sectors.”

The hub is also set to introduce specialized programs such as:

  • Catch Them Young: Engaging young minds early to spark interest in technology and entrepreneurship.

  • Street-to-Skill Programs: Transforming street-level talents into marketable skills.

  • Skill-to-Street Programs: Helping trained individuals apply their skills practically within their communities.

Empowering Rural Communities and Beyond

The NEYI Techpreneurship Hub is more than a center for education—it’s a platform for social and economic empowerment. By focusing on grassroots development, the hub will:

  • Create job opportunities for the youth and women.

  • Provide SMEs with tools to innovate and scale their businesses.

  • Drive financial independence for rural populations.

  • Foster an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship in Ogun State and across Africa.

Aligning with Global Goals

The initiative aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 4), which focus on providing quality education. By making tech education affordable and accessible, the hub ensures inclusivity and equal opportunities for all. Mr. Diligent noted, “Bringing technology closer to rural areas will not only impact lives but also contribute to making Africa proud. From the grassroots, we can create a ripple effect of innovation and development across the continent.”

Call for Partnerships and Collaboration

As the foundation has been laid, NEYI is open to partnerships, collaborations, and sponsorships from reputable organizations, NGOs, and other stakeholders. Together, these partnerships can provide the rural community with the best techpreneurship education, ensuring a brighter future for all.

A Vision for the Future

The NEYI Techpreneurship Hub promises to be a beacon of hope and opportunity. By focusing on the grassroots, it will impact lives, foster innovation, and create a model for sustainable development in Africa. With its strategic location and comprehensive programs, the hub is set to drive growth in Ogun State’s ecosystem and beyond, empowering individuals to achieve financial independence and make meaningful contributions to society.

As construction progresses, the NEYI Techpreneurship Hub represents more than just a building—it’s a symbol of hope, progress, and a brighter future for rural communities. From the rural areas of Ogun State, NEYI is poised to make a lasting impact on Africa’s tech and entrepreneurial landscape.
